[SOLVED]Cacti Traffic Flow - Bytes to Bit, and vs

Post by eholz1 »

Hello Members,
I am using Cacti 1.2.7.
I am trying to make sense of traffic flow data in various cacti graphs (and their templates)

I notice that the basic graph template - In/Out Bits uses a CDEF of Turn Bytes into Bits.
Does that mean the graph displays Bits per second and if lots of traffice Mega Bits per second?

I created a graph using the Total Bandwidth - Bytes per second, and Total Bandwidth Bits per second - both graphs are
written with all gray in the graph - I have not tried to change the graph template.

Also I created a graph 95th percential total bandwith with Bytes into Bits and another graph 95 percential bits/sec
and get the same gray color in these graphs.

Just what values and traffic flows do the graphs show?

Does cacti really show the correct traffic flow values? I am confuses with MB - is it MegaBytes / sec or MegaBits per sec?

Thanks,
eholz1

Big B == Bytes, little b == bits
