Multiple graphs from a single data source

Post by gdsotirov »

Is this actually possible? I'm running Cacti 1.2.11. I created a template data source with all the necessary data items gathered with a script at once. Then, I defined two template graphs from this data source each using different data items. However, when I create the graphs (one after the other) from "Create graphs for this device" each generates a separate data source, which both gather the same information. Is there any way, so I could connect the two graphs to the same data source?

P.S. My problem seems similar to what's reported in issues 948, 2246 and 2364, but as far as I understand it wasn't resolved completely.
P.S.S. Could this be fixed directly into the database?

Sounds like a regression or corner case. You will need to provide more information.

Sure, what more information you need? Let me know and I'll try to provide the requested.

To summarize what I've done is just the following:
  1. Wrote a script that returns field:value pairs.
  2. Defined a Data Input Method for the script with Input Type "Script/Command" and all the output fields.
  3. Defined a Data Source Template using the Data Input Method with all the Data Source Items for all the output fields.
  4. Defined two Graph templates using the Data Source Items.
  5. Created two new graphs from "Create Graphs for this Device" one by one.
The result: Two data sources with the same information are created for the two new graphs.

Expected: The first data source to be reused, because it already provides all the Data Source Items that the second graph needs.

I do not see any option to select existing data source on graph creation or change it afterwards.

That's a regression then. Create a Github issue and upload your Template.

I'm sorry for the delay. I just created issue 3523.
