Hi,
I recently installed cacti 1.2.10 with spine. on my VM Debian10
I am just playing around at home to gain knowledge.
I just realized that the new version 1.2.11 is out and I upgraded cacti and all worked ok.
However I noticed then that I should also update Spine to 1.2.11 but doing this gives me issues all the time.
I followed the instructions in the readme
## Unix Installation
These instructions assume the default install location for spine of
`/usr/local/spine`. If you choose to use another prefix, make sure you update
the commands as required for that new path.
To compile and install Spine using MySQL versions 5.5 or higher please do the
following:
sudo ./configure
sudo make
sudo make install
sudo chown root:root /usr/local/spine/bin/spine
sudo chmod u+s /usr/local/spine/bin/spine
And all seems to be running ok except that my graphs don't update anymore and I see below message in the Log.
POLLER: Poller[Main Poller] Maximum runtime of 298 seconds exceeded. Exiting.
Under technical support I see now below:
Last Run Statistics Time:418.9397 Method:spine Processes:1 Threads:1 Hosts:2 HostsPerProcess:2 DataSources:35 RRDsProcessed:0
before the update it was
Last Run Statistics Time:1.2186 Method:spine Processes:1 Threads:1 Hosts:2 HostsPerProcess:2 DataSources:35 RRDsProcessed:35
so it seems that something is going wrong during the update of spine to 1.2.11
Spine update 1.2.11 -> Poller[Main Poller] Maximum runtime of 298 seconds exceeded. Exiting.

Hey There
try running spine in read only mode and we can check whats happening
/usr/local/spine/bin/spine -R
check to make sure your permissions are proper as well
should be root

Re: Spine update 1.2.11 -> Poller[Main Poller] Maximum runtime of 298 seconds exceeded. Exiting.
Hi,
thanks for the hint.
Even on my working machine with Spine version 1.2.10
/usr/local/spine/bin/spine -R gave me below output, however spine seems to work fine here no issues:
2020/04/09 20:59:35 - SPINE: Poller[1] PID[96622] FATAL: Unable to read configuration file! (Spine init)
after some more research I found out that I should do below command after installation.
#sudo cp /usr/local/spine/etc/spine.conf.dist /usr/local/spine/etc/spine.conf and adjust username and password to my DB
now Spine is updated, I get a corrcect feedback from #/usr/local/spine/bin/spine -R
SPINE: Using spine config file [../etc/spine.conf]
SPINE: Version 1.2.11 starting
SPINE: Time: 3.0897 s, Threads: 1, Devices: 3
But still in the cacti.log again only POLLER: Poller[Main Poller] Maximum runtime of 298 seconds exceeded. Exiting. and SYSTEM STATS: Time:419.0313 Method:spine Processes:1 Threads:1 Hosts:2 HostsPerProcess:2 DataSources:35 RRDsProcessed:0 and nothing is graphed.
Strange is when I manually issue the command the time seems to be ok though.

Did you completed the fields regarding spine.conf? Its under "Configuration -> Settings -> Paths". You have to insert the path for both the binary and config file.
