new graphs (those with newly created RRDs) show blocky graph

Since a few days ago, all graphs for which I create new RRD files show very blocky output (see graph below). This applies to newly created graphs as well as one which I tried to 'unwegde' by manually re-creating the RRD file with whatever the Data Source Debug statement showed.

What could be causing this? The rrdtool create command does not look any different from what it shows for the other RRDs.

nevermind, I must have screwed the settings under Data Sources/RRAs. after fixing them back to AVERAGE/MAX and recreating those RRDs things are fine. duh
