Help with thresholds

Post by Lazarus »

I have created a threshold template to give me an alert when traffic exceeds a certain level, the problem I have is that I have a couple of hundred devices that I need to apply this threshold template to. I figured out easily how to add it do devices one at a time, but doing this will take me a couple days to finish. Is there a way to apply the template to multiple devices at once so I can speed up the process?

TIA

Edit the Device Template and add it there, then re-run automation for the devices.

Sorry if this is dumb, but I didn't use a device template to add my devices. I looked in the device templates and can see where to add my threshold template but not sure if that is what I need.

To clarify.

I am monitoring access devices (Calix) that have multiple interfaces. One set of these interfaces (GPON) are where I need to apply the threshold template. Individually when I add these on the last selection box it lists the interfaces on the device and I can go through and select one interface and then click the create button. It then creates the graph for that interface, and then I have to do this again for the next interface. Each device has 8 of these interfaces an we have somewhere around 100 of these devices in the network. Hence my looking for a shortcut.

The attached pic is how I have been adding them so far. The PON changes from 1/1-1/4 and 2/1-2/4, for each device.

I think I understand the CLI way of doing it. I assume that since you posted that there is no simple way to do it through the GUI then?

Either way, thanks for the assistance.

You can do it through the GUI by displaying the Data Source that are of interest, then highlighting them and selecting "Create Threshold from Template". However, if you have thousands, it's eaiser just to learn the Cacti database and write some SQL code that calls the CLI script.
