Hi guys,
I really like Cacti, and think it looks really professional - GREAT WORK.
My recent SNMP problem, got me wondering about a few things:
1) in the cron output - a GREAT tool to check that your Data input's/Sources work, I see my 2 SNMP jobs listed (one is setup via SNMP interfaces, with make graph, and the other is setup via making my own Data Source from SNMP Data) - but when I click Show output, they fields are blank - although there is actually data coming in (is that because it's an INTERNAL test?) - it would be very valuable to be able to see that ones SNMP data is actually coming in.
2) How come there's only an SNMP interfaces selection part? This means that when I want to graph my servers diskspace, network traffic etc. or my copiers print/copy counts, I can only do it, by doing my own snmpwalk - and then making an SNMP Data source - which means I have to go out of the GUI
That's all my questions, I hope they aren't totally dumb questions - they are just what I saw as "missing" in Cacti.
Best regards

SNMP data retrieval questions

Your first question is really my fault, this functionality has been broken for a few versions now. It broke when I changed cacti's SNMP support to utilize php-snmp as well. I promise I'll get around to fixing it
For now, I recommend going into data sources and selecting 'edit data' next to the data source in question. The 'update' string should reveal the last value passed to rrdtool.
About the SNMP stuff... right now cacti only can query interfaces from the web interface. You can add additional SNMP data sources without leaving the gui by using the 'Get SNMP Data' data input source. The only stipulation is you must know the OID/MIB name.
The next major release of cacti should allow the user to define additional things to be queried in addition to IP interfaces.
We'll see how that progresses.
