Hello all,
I have a current monitoring server on 0.8.8 version of Cacti, and need to move this to another CentOS 8 server, and upgrade to the newest version.
I understand if I install the latest version of Cacti on the CentOS server, and try to migrate the database, I'm going to have some issues.
Would I be better off installing a new version of 0.8.8, migrating the database, then upgrading to the newest version?
I'm just trying to figure out the easiest way to get this done.
I've done some searching, but can't find any recent examples of such an upgrade.

Hi ben987,
I also moved from Cacti 0.8.8h to the newest version Cacti 1.2.9 very recently alltogether with Centreon (same server as Cacti)
I had so much trouble installing Centreon on CentOS 8 that after 3 weeks, I ended up installing it on CentOS 7.7.1908
For me new versions of Centreon and Cacti are ready to use ^^
I am also not trying to restore the old database, I am populating the new Cacti device by device
I only have around 500 devices so it is still handable
From what I see of this new installation, moving to from Cacti 0.8.8 to Cacti 1.2.9 is worth the effort !!

Hi WTem,
I'm also considering just re-populating the device database.
I'm also moving from Fedora to CentOS, so this is another challenge.

You can make use of the automation network scanning which can add devices and graphs automatically for you. One of our own devs repopulates his stack of VMs and network devices back into cacti everytime he does a fresh install to check there are no issues with that.
