Cacti SNMP problems - on AIX 4.3.3

Post by dmason »

Hello all,

I realize I might be the only person running Cacti on AIX but I've come such a long way I can't give up now. :)

I'm running net-snmp 5.0.1 and have downloaded the RaX patch to snmp_functions.php but still can't collect any SNMP data. I'm still getting the infamous N:U with every poll.

I modified line 59 of the config.php file to:
$config["php_snmp_support"] = false;

I also modified the snmp.pl file for the snmpget version I'm using and it comes back fine now (with data) from the command line.

Not sure how I can trouble-shoot this. I don't know PHP. I believe it is somehow with the call of snmpget/snmpwalk. Path problem? I've tried changing the Cacti Settings to both the path: /path/name and to the binary itself: /path/name/snmpget
with the same results.

If anyone has any ideas or a proper way to trouble-shoot I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, David

Hi you good looking stud,

Since no one else reponded I thought I would. Looks like your mention of AIX scared everyone away.

Seriously, here's an update:

I don't believe it is an AIX issue. I was able to collect SNMP data (and it is being added to the RRD file) using the "Get SNMP Data" Data Source rather than the "Get SNMP Network Data" Data Source. Problem now is even though it is in the database I still cannot get it to graph. I am getting broken images.

I have increased the max value to 9999999 and am still getting the broken images.

Also, I went back and replaced my net-snmp v5 with ucd-snmp v4.2.3 just to help eliminate problems (but I still couldn't collect data using "Get SNMP Network Data" Data Source).

Any place I can look for error messages?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

David

OK, got it figured out why I haven't been able to see the graphs. I saw that the Apache error log stated that permissions didn't allow access to the .rrd files. I changed the permissions to be world read-able and all is well.

I've been having problems with this too but have discoverd a few things. You might try the following:

1. Make sure your .rrd files and the rra directory are readable by everyone.
2. Start with a basic graph. I was trying to display using LAST data and was getting a broken image. Changed it to AVERAGE and the image appeared. MAX only shows on weekly, monthly, yearly graphs (after the data is aggregated).
3. View your web server's error log.
4. Play around with the graphing.
5. To test, try using the more basic "Get SNMP Data" as the source rather than the "Get SNMP Network Data" data source.

Hope this helps. David
