Hey there

New user to cacti, I have some nix experience but I wanted to go down the route of using a Windows system just for ease.

I have tried this on a Windows 10 machine and a Server 2012 R2 VM.

When I installed Cacti on the windows 10 machine, i was able to get to the point of the cacti install web page, unfortuntely the required php plugin modules were not showing up, No matter what i did I was unable to resolve this issue, i followed the github links and checked over the env variables and such.

At that point i decided to move onto a 2k12 R2 VM. I setup the system and dropped cacti on, this time I have been unable to get the MySQL server running as it refuses connections, when trying to run mysqld it began complaining about missing DLLs.

Are there any pre requisites im missing from the 2k12 vm or is there a recommended OS that i need to use?

Thanks!

Are you using the supplied Windows installer as that normally takes care of it all?

Yep, i even tried running the 1.2.3 installer from the archive on the FTP as i saw a few entries in this threat or possibly a search result that said there were issues with the 1.2.5 installer and MySQL 5.7

I will try again on a fresh image of a VM, is there a particular OS that is recommended?

Thanks

Not really, I run most of my servers on Linux with a variety of CentOS or Ubuntu.

Hi BSOD2600

I installed the latest version of cacti "Windows Installer [Cacti 1.2.5] [Updated 2019-07-18]" and added a switch to the device, But the graph is not shown,
I also encountered this message in "Rebuild Poller Cache". Could this be a problem?
Can you guide me?

Mehrdad, I found after the fresh install that the poller would not run, you need to ideally change the scheduled task to run at system startup and every 5 minutes indefinitely, this resolved my problem.

Just to update others, I have been able to get my install of Cacti running, however I am running into a problem with the syslog plugin.

I have changed the config.php file to include my cactiuser password and the syslog plugin installs and enables fine.

However, the sonicwall I am trying to use syslogging for cannot connect. When running Netstat, i do not see any ports open for 514/541 (cant remember which it is :P)

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin a couple of times but sadly i do not get a listener on the port no matter what i do, Can anyone point me in the right direction?

the syslog plugin reads from its database table to import the records. however, you still need a syslog server that will populate said table such as rsyslogd.

Welp! it didn't go as planned as the windows version of rsyslog is just an agent and not a syslog server, i can't seem to find a link for the enterprise version which there is a charge for..

So, i have downloaded kiwi's syslogd and thats working great on accepting the syslog data from a particular firewall that is having issues. HOWEVER, i am not able to setup the forward or log straight to the database.

Looking through the documentation, most of this is linux based and not of much help sadly.

I can confirm that the syslog plugin is interacting with the database as when i query the tables pre and post install, i can see the syslog tables within the cacti DB.

Am i supposed to be setting up a rule from within the syslogd server to forward either to a new host or direct to the DB?
In the case of the DB, what settings should I use as I am unable to get a connection to the DB at all, i can see the DB listening on 3306 however.

Thanks again

The syslog daemon should be posted into incoming table of syslog. rsyslog has that built into it on linux, but I've never seen someone using it on windows to know what the equivalent on there is.

Hi all
I want to back up our Cacti server and I have a couple of questions. our backup software takes an initial copy of the data and then does differential data (the vendor calls this delta) with each scheduled snapshot. Since Cacti has its own SQL database is there a plugin or agent that needs to be evoked before the scheduled snapshot? Taking the snapshot while the database is active would give an unreliable or failed backup nor do I want to risk corrupting the production database. We are running Cacti off a Virtual Windows Server 2019. Can a scheduled backup from within Cacti be scheduled? Again, my biggest concern is for the snapshot and backup of data doesn't happen while the Database is in use. The backup window is usually about 20 mins; ideally, I would like for the database transactions to stop just before the snapshot is taken. The backup method takes a snapshot of the whole partition to allow for a complete recovery.
Can you please let me know the important files that need to be backed up for Windows system?

Thank you in advance for your help in this matter.

Do you mean, you have a database on a separate machine (be it a VM or a physical one) or you run the database server on the same VM?

Well, you still have to consider the RRD files, where the data is actually stored.

Now regarding Cacti, I am not aware of a way to trigger events when the poller finishes. Maybe in the new SNMP Agent Support Enabled?

One "hack-y" way would be to schedule the snapshot in a "time window" in such a way that the poller has time to finish and the snapshot has time to finish before the next polling interval starts. So, the safest way would be start the snapshot at polling_interval - snapshot_time - margin_of_error. And this should be after max_polling_time + margin_of_error.

Disclaimer: I am not an expert, nor have I had the time or opportunity to test what I stated above.

Hello,

I can't download the forum package below:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14946&sid=64015c9f5 ... c1a6cda884

The download link is this one:
https://www.cacti.net/downloads/package ... -1.2.7.exe

Is it possible to publish a new download link?

Best Regards,

Only 1.2.5 is available in that folder, I'd have to check why.

Good afternoon. I've been banging my head against the wall trying to install Cacti for a couple of weeks now. I'd love to try the installer but I get a page not found error when trying to download it. Please help!

Thank you!
