How cacti measure the total bandwidth

Post by andremzenun »

Hello cacti users!

I'm using cacti for a while to graph my server here, and it generate nice graphs for me, but now I want to try RRDtools only. Without cacti

I have sucessfuly create my graphs but I can't have the total bandwidth information. I would like to know how cacti measure the total bandwidth in the graphs!

I know that cacti use this wildcard "|sum:auto:current:2:auto|" to generate this information, but what I need is how do I made this! If I have to made some script to calculate this, or the RRDTool have some function to do this...

Please, if some one know how this is done, will be great!

Thanks a lot!

Well, if you want to use rrdtool without cacti, you better find a way of gettin the information that you are going to put in the rrd's, because that is what cacti is doing.

Also, if you really need to know what those functions are doing, go look at the source code, it's GPL.

Yes that is true! Cact is doing this!

And I just want to ask because maybe some one already know that! But is ok!

It is interesting because if my monitored computer is restarted or the snmp variable back to zero again, cacti don't loose the "total bandwidth" value...

And I'm looking in the code, but I'm no programer, and I'll take some time to figure out how this is done...

If some one more know how this could be done, I'll be very gratefull!

Thanks! ;)

You make absolutely no sense. You want to have your own application, but you are not a programmer. I have no more to say. See a doctor.
