Newbie questions

Post by Kaktus-Jack »

Hi everyone,

I just installed cacti on a XP Pro box and everything seems to work. I changed the host type under Devices -> Edit to Windows2000/XP but somehow the poller still uses the linux scripts. At least he says so in the cacti.log file. Why is that?

EDIT: OK, I found a solution. So read on, here's nothing to see anymore :)

Another thing: is there a way to stop the poller from opening DOS-boxes upon starting? Or to minimise the boxes? Cacti runs on the machine I'm working on and that's annoying.

Thanks for your answers and sorry if I repeated questions that have been answered umpteen times.

Bye

Cacti is a little Unix centric when it comes to those scripts. You should remove those Data Sources and Graphs from Localhost.

As for the DOS box, run the poller not as the same user you are logged in as and you will not get those annoying boxes.

Hi,

I added another host with the Windows2000/XP template and deleted localhost.
Problem now is, that the poller doesn't get any results. The task starts, does nothing and ends. There aren't even entries in the cacti.log..
I changed the path to the snmpget.exe from D:\snmp-get to D:/snmp-get but that didn't help either. Strange...

Any ideas?

TIA

Start over?

I have never deleted localhost, I only disable it on windows.

If you don't feel like starting over, please post you cacti log in debug mode for one poll cycle.

Thanks,

That easy, because cacti doesn't log anthing. The PC was switched on over the weekend and the last log entry has a timestamp "18.03.05 14:15:02". This is about the time I deleted localhost.

Strange things happen around here...

Bye
