I have been running Cacti for many years on Redhat, Centos and even Raspberry Pi Debian.
I have run into a problem recently on a new installation on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
It seems that every single SNMP response from the local host Cacti says is "invalid".
I recently installed the speedtest-cli script on the same host and this works fine.
Using SNMP walk the only difference I can see between my Debian-Pi and Redhat installations is that the SNMP daemon returns double quotes around some of the data.
The Cacti Poller always returns "U" and consequently all the graphs are NaN.
I will probably ditch the Ubuntu installation and take a massive step backwards to run it on Centos if I can't fix this which is not ideal by any stretch.
The problem seems to be the net-snmp daemon responses, but snmpget and walk all work fine.

Re: Net-snmp on Ubuntu issue
18.04 isn't fully tested yet with Cacti. There are issues with PHP 7.2 and MariaDB/MySQL under it because of some breaking changes in each product. Most have been rectified under 1.2 (still under development) but 1.1.38 and below will experience issues on the platform at this time.
