Cisco router memory template help

I think I just don't quite understand cacti yet..

I downloaded a template (tar.gz) which contained 2 data templates and a graph template. http://forums.cacti.net/download.php?id=249

But don't I also need a data query which can be associated with the device? Or does the data template do that? But I can't figure out how to tie the data template to the device. Like I say, I don't "get" it. Have read the manual, faq's, etc and they have not improved my IQ.

I have the stock stuff (interface traffic, disk space, etc) working fine. Running .8.6b on Mandrake linux 10.1.
