Re: ESXi 5.x template - no perl SDK, pure snmp
More than likely if it's in the VMware templates but it won't be an Interface it'll be a disk throughput or space graph.
If not, it'd have to be a customised template but I'm sure it would already existed as others would have needed it before now.

I quess that vmhba information isn't in any snmp MIB. I can't see it in snmp walk.Slixor wrote:Point is, in the web UI of ESXI, you can view vmhba adapters in a simular view to vmnics, so can cacti get the same data? (see pics attached).

Wait, there is a caveat that I've just thought of. I'm sure it also depends on whether you are using the "Free" version. VMware limit the management information you can get out of a VMware "free" license over their paid for licenses.

Re: ESXi 5.x template - no perl SDK, pure snmp
I've done some research and this is right. To quote another user, "VMware has dropped support of SNMP. You have to use CIM/SMASH in order to obtain hardware status, etc. You have to use their API in order to obtain "higher level" performance stats like CPU utilization, Memory utilization, Disk IO, etc. AFAIK Cacti doesn't have a means for doing either of those."macan wrote:I quess that vmhba information isn't in any snmp MIB. So I wrote a script in powershell that would output the data I needed for my weathermap. Problem solved.
Re: ESXi 5.x template - no perl SDK, pure snmp
Cacti would need a Script Server script to be able to query for those. If I ever get work to commit to having a proper VMware environment, I may create some proper VMware templates.

I'm currently running the free version 6.0.0 3620759 and I see the vmhba screen, so it's not a free vs pay issue.

Yes, that is via the VMware tools though, not via SNMP. I'm pretty sure it is a free vs paid thing when it comes to querying that kind of information via SNMP.

Re: ESXi 5.x template - no perl SDK, pure snmp
It's been a few years since there's been activity here, but just wanted to update that I was able to get things working with the newest version of Cacti and my ESXI 6.5 hosts. Note: It didn't work until I downloaded the vmware MIB's
Re: ESXi 5.x template - no perl SDK, pure snmp
I still using this version for esxi 5.x, 6.x and all is working. Please describe what you had to do.
