Cacti site unreachable

Post by bnkslo »

Hello.

I'am new to Cacti and Linux.
We have Cacti version 0.8.8f installed.

The problem that i have is when i go to the site it displays the log-in window for username and password. When i type them in correctly the message "the site is unreachable" is displayed.

Any help would be really great.
Thank you in advance.
bnk

EDIT:
If i list all folders i get this for cacti folder:

drwxr-xr-x 13 1000 users 4096 Jul 20 2015 cacti

Could the 1000 and users be the problem ?

The 1000 is likely to be a user that was removed for some reason. The "users" group has read access so the site should have full ability to display, but you may have errors in the apache logs. It may well even be the apache or www-data user that is missing thus the permission issue.

Firstly, thx for replying.

I've been doing some digging and found these user on my Linux, listed them below. There is no www-data ? Just to clarify, i'am using CentOS.

Then i looked at the error_log file and in there i found that msg: child pid 3855 exit signal File size limit exceeded (25)

So i checked what it means and i found this:
Found that this message is related to size of a log file being over 2 GB.

Then i looked for a cacti log file if its more than 2 GB and i found:
-rwxrw-rw- 1 1000 users 2147483647 Dec 11 22:30 cacti.log

My question: Can i just delete the file ?

Well i did not delete the file (cacti.log), but i did a logrotate for it and it worked.
I can log to the site again.

The graphs where empty at the first log in, but are showing data now.
I have to look if the old data is lost or why it was not displayed?
I think it has something to do with the: drwxr-xr-x 13 1000 users 4096 Jul 20 2015 cacti

Yes, that cacti user would have read access to that file as whatever user was UID 1000 has been removed.
