I have Verizon for an ISP. They block using any other mail service but their own (via AOL mail) from sending SMTP traffic. Many other carriers have adopted this approach to email, even though it has been secured. Look at your ISP's terms and conditions to see if this too is the case with your service.

What are your Gmail settings? Erase the email address portion in the reply. Also, test from an email client. If it works there, it should work from Cacti. The test button may not work (if you saw my post), but trigger an error and see if you get the email alert. I did.

Please clarify how you know/believe everything to be fine with your ISP. Simply saying it should be fine doesn't make it so and even if they haven't notified you directly of the SMTP block/redirection, it can still be occurring. In addition to that, if you have any form of firewall or AV between the cacti process and SMTP server, you should ensure that they are allowing SMTP through as well. A lot don't because they class it as spam used by malicious people.

So, confirmed, the IP obtained is valid and ok. I sent a test from CLI: "python3 sendmail.py" and it came through but from the GUI..web browser > setting > Mail/DNS , I am unable to send a test mail.
Thank you.

Aside from the username/password what settings did you use in the python mail?

Thank you.
I have two Cacti installs. The test email works on one system and fails in the second. The second (my primary of course) also is unable to PING any devices in the setup, where it had some time back. I don't know what changed, but when a device fails due to the inability to pull SNMP data, I still get the notification, I just am unable to use the test email button. The script Netniv wrote and posted at the end of the linked thread above DID work. Same script, just with some debugging enabled. Go figure. Like I said earlier, change an IP in a device to cause it to fail, wait the polling time and see if you do get notifications. Chances are it will work.
