graphs not being graphed on localhost ubuntu

Post by lethargos »

Hi,
I'm making some attempts at install cacti for the first time on a linux machine, but I'm unable to create the graphs for it. The status of the graphs that I'm trying to add is: "Not Being Graphed". The associated data queries (get monitored partitions, get device i/o and so on) all work, meaning that they return items, OIDs and so on.
I'm using the private ip (not the loopback), net-snmp device, version 2 of snmp to query. The poller is spine (although I also tried using cmd.php). I'm not even sure what info I can offer in order for my problem to be more easily solved.
/var/www/html/log contains only two lines:

Code: Select all

03/22/2018 10:57:15 - SYSTEM STATS: Time:1.2875 Method:cmd.php Processes:1 Threads:N/A Hosts:1 HostsPerProcess:1 DataSources:9 RRDsProcessed:7
03/22/2018 10:57:15 - AUTOM8 ERROR: The Network ID: 1 is disabled. You must use the 'force' option to force it's execution.
Cacti version is 1.1.36
Ubuntu 16.04
content of snmpd.conf:

Code: Select all

grep -E -v "^(\s*#|$)" /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf
agentAddress udp:0.0.0.0:161

 extend test1 /bin/echo Hello, world!
 extend-sh test2 echo Hello, world! ; echo Hi there ; exit 35

I've also tested snmpwalk -v1 public localhost and it works just fine - a bunch of lines I get in return :)

What you look at is the list of graph templates that is associated to the device template the machine is associated with. It's information only. To actually create a graph, look at the top right corner of the form. There is a link called "Create graphs for this device".

How could it be information only when it says "not being graphed"? This means that it's trying to create a graph, but it doesn't work. Anyway, I did create two separate graphs based on two templates, "Memory usage" and "Processes", but when I try to display then, I get the familiar error:
'/var/www/html/rra/ubuntu1_mem_buffer... no such file or directory". In only infer that it's "no such file or directory", because the graph only displays part of it (as can see in this beautiful 4K UHD picture).

So I'm guessing something's wrong and it's not the fact that I cannot tell templates and graphs apart.

How did you install this on ubuntu and what version did you install? Was it using the Debian Backports that Paul Gevers makes or a manual installation?

This definitely sounds like a poller and/or permission and/or date issue. I've seen most graphs not being created due to one of those reasons.

Hi,
As I've already mentioned in my first post, cacti version is 1.1.36.
I've folllowed these instructions: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/ho ... on-ubuntu/
I've installed it manually, because the ubuntu repository for version 16 offers 0.8.8f, and I wanted the newer one.

/var/www/html is owned recursively by www-data (apache user).

I just like to check as 1.1.37 just came out so there was a change you'd done the update to that.

If you had to remove and re-add cacti, would it be an issue?

If the answer is no, check out Paul Gevers signature for links on how to get the Debian Backport enabled to pick up the latest Cacti version he's packaged. His package does all the hard work for you.

It wouldn't be an issue. This is a new installation and I'm simply trying to understand how cacti works. Thanks for the tip. I'll get back to you when I've installed it. Thanks for the prompt answer.
