LetsGo67:
My guess is its something to do with the language of the OS and what's being passed at the commandline to the various installers, which is causing these issues. Do you have time to test another build for me?

If MySQL is already installed, it must be fully working. If it is not fully working, then you have to either fix it, or uninstall it (assuming it's not used by something else).

I have the exact same issue with the newest version and Windows 10
CACTI was installed fresh on a new Win 10 PC (i3/8GB RAM)
CACTI was working
Other software was added and CACTI continued working
Windows updates happened afterwards
then CACTI started getting very slow and adding new devices didn't work at times
removed CACTI completely and tried to install again but failed with the below error every time
Tried CACTI 1.1.16 and 1.1.36, exact same issue
timezone is set as I always do
Region and language is set as it's always been - English
--- noticed that on another Win10 PC running CACTI I have 2 English language packs installed
--- added the other language pack on this PC again and did package installation of CACTI 1.1.36 again

Still the same issue

@ BSOD2600

the "new" installer packages do not include some software (so that you can keep the package smaller)
I fully understand and agree with that

I would like to make a suggestion
Can you compile your installation (which I use and greatly appreciate) to look in a folder for the software that it would normally download from the internet

for example c:\cacti_install
so we will see that software x,y,z will be needed to complete the installation
we can then manually download the software and place it in the folder from where the installation will be done

If the software is not in that folder then the installation package will connect to the internet and download the software

This will greatly help in places where internet access is not possible / allowed for the monitoring server.

This is why the installation failed. Where you able to successfully download MySQL or does the server not have Internet access?

Indeed it does. Primarily because the MySQL installer has grown crazy large and would bloat the installer by another 300+ MB (as it includes a lot of other software cacti doesn't need/use).

The problem with the installer folder binary idea is languages. The installer knows all the paths/binaries are in English. When this is done with another operating system local, these can change and then there is a LOT left up in the air (how to compensate for other languages; does the installer ask the user for the paths of all the required binaries?; what if the user specifies a version of installer which isnt supported/tested?; how to handle the deprecated or beta versions of software?) Plus, various versions of installers/software, have their own bugs or oddities, which much be worked around by this installer. There for, it this installer cannot simply accept any versions of PHP, MySQL, apache, or Cacti because the work effort to handle the vast number of versions of all the required software would be a massive under taking. Thus, it works with the current supported versions available at the time of release, and these are tested within VMs before publication.

I know, its certainly not ideal.... but then again, this is intended for the novice admin who doesn't have time to follow the installation guide and just needs something to work at first attempt. Seasoned admins should always perform the individual install/configs manually, so they're fully aware what changes are being made to their asset.

If this is a windows server, it may be that the IE configuration is locked down and that the site from which MySQL was attempted to be downloaded from isn't in the trusted sites. I take it you have the Enhanced Security Configuration enabled?
