Error: Save Failed - always host ID 0

Every time I try and add a new device, I get an error: save failed. However if I go back to the device list and look, the new device is there with an ID of 0. If I try and add another device, it instead changes the existing device 0 to the new information instead of adding another device. The same thing happens in the Graph Tree's section for example. If I add a tree called test, I get "error: save failed." However back in Graph Tree's it shows up with id=0. If I try and add another tree called test1234, it errors again, but actually changes the Graph Tree "test" to "test1234". Any ideas? With over 400 data sources I don't want to start from scratch

Narrowed down to being a database problem, but what is the problem?

If I change the config to point to a new empty cacti database everything works ok
