Spine Configuration Recommendations

Post by andermat »

Running Cacti 1.1.26 on Windows Server 2012 with 16GB RAM and 1 socket with 8 virtual processors. Need to setup monitoring for 8,500 Cisco 3750 switches with approximately 408,000 ports. Is there a formula to calculate how to setup Spine to run with so many devices to monitor? Do I need multiple servers? Current setup showing in clog with many more devices needed to add:

SYSTEM STATS: Time:8.0210 Method:spine Processes:50 Threads:60 Hosts:102 HostsPerProcess:3 DataSources:11113 RRDsProcessed:5561

I had to do some tweaking with Spine upping Processes, Threads, max OIDs, etc. to get it to work properly. Also, had to change max_connections=3000 because was getting "Too many connections" error.
