SOLVED:SPINE:Poller[1] FATAL:Connection Failed, Error:'1251'

This is a new install of cacti 1.1.13 and spine (also 1.1.13) on Debian Linux 9. I get the following error when I attempt to run spine. I suspect this is some sort of config error, but I'm not sure where to look. I would think that spine 1.1.13 knows how to talk to MariaDB?

mariadb Ver 15.1 Distrib 10.1.23-MariaDB, for debian-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.2

Yes. Some modifications to the standard installation are required on Debian 9/PHP 7/MariaDB 15. It boils down to included libraries that no longer need to be added to extensions (they're already there).
