Cent OS Version & 1.0.0 Guide Book

Post by JMH »

Hi.

I bought the 0.8 beginner's guide late last year and am only just getting around to potentially rebuilding our server.

It says Cent OS 5.5 (at least).

So to ask a stupid question, is Cent OS 7 ok?

Also, I have the 0.8 guide. Its updated to 1.0.0. Is there another downloadable? I actually bought the 0.8 book. Is there a new published version? ( Don't like how the documentation is laid out... difficult to follow.)

I am working on the 1.0 version of the beginners guide, but it takes a while to get through all new stuff.

Centos 7 is fine for Cacti 0.8. Look here for a quick install guide: https://www.urban-software.com/cacti-ho ... ing-cacti/

and here for the spine part: https://www.urban-software.com/cacti-ho ... ne-poller/

How different is the 1.0 book version from the 0.8 book version?

It's partially a rewrite to reflect the new install stuff or UI changes ( i.e. Tree maintenance, new install process) ,
partly changing the chapters (i.e. Permissions, User Groups in Cacti 1.x, automation ),
the complete removal of chapters ( Appendix A - Mobile Access, Chapter 8- Plugin Architecture )
and the creation of completely new chapters (i.e remote polling, 1-minute polling).
