Collect data from ftp server

Post by alavague »

Hi everyone,

I am an environmental engineer and i am currently developing a device for a client.
I have a sensor measuring a water quality variable every 5 s, plugged to a data logger. The data logger saves each consecutive measurement into .txt files, a new file is created every 15 min and sent to a ftp server.

My goal is to automatically collect and compile these files from the ftp server and display all data values on a graph that could be accessible by me (full access) and by the client (restricted access). This graph needs to be accessible by a simple url link that i'd give to the client.

I've been recommended cacti on this particular issue. I managed to install it, but i do not really know where to go from here.
I've read a lot on this forum, and realized that cacti is mainly used to monitor devices or network activity.

Is there a way to achieve what i want to do using cacti ? I'm obviously not asking that you give me a full solution, but i am quite new to all this and any piece of advice on where to start would by much welcome.

Thank you !

Look at the gexport plugin. The graphing issue has been addressed several times. Use Google to search the forums.
Before history, there was a paradise, now dust.
