Hey guys,

is it possible to install cacti 1.0.2 with apt-get on Ubuntu 16.04?

No, and not sure it will. Not trivial to get this done in older releases of Ubuntu and Debian in the Ubuntu/Debian way.

I'm confused though: 16.04 is the newest server release of ubuntu? The reply referred to older releases of Ubuntu.

Sorry, I meant everything that is already released.

And on top of that I wasn't aware that not every Ubuntu release is also a server release. But per my the line above that doesn't even matter.

Side note, I am nearly so far that I can upload something to Debian/experimental. If all goes well, I may be able to provide Ubuntu packages via my PPA.

Done just now. Please, be aware for now only for 17.04 (Zesty) due to dependencies and still slightly experimental. It probably works OK, but some JavaScript quirks may be there as I haven't tested everything. Also the date picker isn't translated properly yet, and until 1.1.6 comes out I only have Russian and German.

Feedback highly appreciated.

Paul

Hey Paul,

that's nice!

Currently I'm running cacti 0.8.8f on Ubuntu 16.04.

Is there a chance to do a smooth upgrade?

First of all, I could try an ubuntu upgrade from 16.04 to 17.04.

Then I could try the cacti upgrade.

What do you think/suggest?

If you do normal Ubuntu upgrades and install my package from the PPA running the same version as I built the package in, it should be a smooth ride. Any non-smoothnesses I consider bugs that I want to fix.

So the bottom line is, I don't know of bottle-necks, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. The Debian/Ubuntu package is different from upstream (the Cacti site) and may contain subtle bugs that aren't spotted yet (and does include all the bugs from cacti ;) ).

Paul,

I just installed cacti 1.1.10 from your repository.

The language of the surface is a mix of englisch and german?

Can I set up english only?

Does the language depend on the language of the Ubuntu 17.04?

Cool. Which reminds me that I should upload 1.1.12 to my repo as well.

To be honest I have no idea. What I suspect is that you (for whatever reason) have German selected as language and the translation is incomplete.

Please file a bug in the Ubuntu (or better Debian) bug tracker, such that I don't forget to look into it.

Somewhere in the settings you can select the language. Can you try to find it, report what value it currently has and change it to English and report if that helps?

Sorry, I was too hasty.

You can set up the language under settings.

I also disabled "Auto Language Detection" and "Language Support".

Everything is in english now. Looks very good!

But I have another problem: I saw (as you mentioned) you uploaded version 1.1.2

I wanted to do and apt-get upgrade but it refuses to upgrade cacti.

When I do an apt-get install cacti, it says:

"Die folgenden Pakete haben unerfüllte Abhängigkeiten:
cacti : Hängt ab von: dbconfig-common (>= 2.0.9) aber 2.0.9~ppaZ1 soll installiert werden
E: Probleme können nicht korrigiert werden, Sie haben zurückgehaltene defekte Pakete."

-> cacti depends on dbconfig-common 2.0.9, but dbconfig-common 2.0.9 has been installed from your repo via apt-get upgrade.

Do you have an idea?

Thank you!

This means I made a trivial mistake in my ppa. I will try to fix this "soon" but have very limited time/bandwidth right now. It may take a couple of days.

There must be an option is apt to install nevertheless (you need dbconfig-common from my PPA)

Thanks for letting me know.

I tried to upload to my ppa, but it seems that my current Internet connection doesn't allow FTP.

Never mind, it was a temporary issue.

works great, thanks!

I have another question, though:

I added two devices, a windows server and a linux server.

And the graphs look different, although they have the same graph template.

nessus-disk.jpg is the normal colour.

ts1 is another colour in contrast.

the Graph Template is the same: Host MIB - Available Disk Space

I don't know why there is a difference and where it comes from.

Do you have an idea?
