Data query error..

Post by d3cypher »

Hello all, new Cacti user here. I've had success with MRTG and instead of using RRDtool I thought Cacti looked interesting when I stumbled on it some time back. So here I have a nice install of Cacti and followed the docs for running on my Linux box. I can create devices, however when I graph I get this error:

There appears to be a problem with your data query. Please make sure you have made at least one data template association.

I've searched and found one instance in a forum for this, however it was over a year old and unanswered. I hope I can get some help now.

I can be reached via AIM below as well, I'm online EST 8a-4p

Also, if I use the Graph Templates instead of the data queries, I get this in the debug -> ERROR: opening '/var/www/cacti/rra/rexinfosec01_proc_40.rrd': No such file or directory

the directory structure is right and as far as I know the permissions are right, there are NO files in that directory (rra)

Cancel

Thanks,

John

Are you running the poller from cron every 5 minutes?

Under /etc/crond.d/cacti contains:

*/5 * * * * cacti php /var/www/cacti/cmd.php &>/dev/null

When I have debub turned on while trying to set up a graph, I get the message of the file or directory does not exist and it sayd it's from RRDTool.

I assume the cmd.php is the poller.

I don't know if it is good that I installed cacti from an RPM from the dag repository or not. It doesn't seem to have anything odd about it, other than being a rev or so down from the current release. Also my rrdtool was installed via rpm from the dag repository.

Thanks,
John

Um.... Can you install it from source located at www.cacti.net?

And, I forgot to ask this earlier, what version of cacti are you running?

Yeah I've gotten the tarball, thought I'd try that next. The current version is 0.8.5.

I'm removing the RPM now and starting the tarball process.

If you have AIM, I'm online.

Thank rony..

That was my 'last' step to do.. and it worked.. I am running the latest and so far it works connecting to my Linux box. Trying my Cisco routers now.

Thanks,

John
