RRA permissions with Structured RRA Path error

I have found multiple topics on this but no one seems to know exactly how to resolve this.

Can somebody please help with resolving the issue with the Structured RRA path permissions problem which seems to appear after running updates.

After installing 1.0.1 everything appeared to be working as expected and in the RRA directory, cacti would be able to create a new device folder with the proper owner for me which was mcccacti.

I am now on 1.0.3 and have installed updates on Ubuntu 16.10 and I'm running into the same issues I have seen in many tickets.
When I add a new device and cacti creates the new directory in /rra/ the owner is www-data and cacti gives an error that it's unable to change the permissions of the folder.

How does this appear to pop up after an update when it was working fine before. How can I fix this????

Are you sure that the owner of the folder is who you want it to be (mcccacti)?

If the latest install overwrites the existing folder structure, it may overwrite the owner's permissions as well. Try:

linux# chmod mcccacati.mcccacti <path to cacti>/cacti -R

This will change ownership on all directories and files under <path to cacti>/cacti to be 'mcccacti'. Anything created going forward will be owned by 'mcccacti' as well.

yeah tried that but still giving me heartache.

I've just been going in and chown to mccadmin for each new device I add.

it creates the directory as www-data:www-data but then is unable to change the permissions to mccadmin:www-data.

If I do not change it to mccadmin:www-data it will not create any rrd files so not sure what I have done to myself...LOL

Sure I did something wacky somewhere.
