Monitoring CPU & Memory Utilization of Unix Based Server

Post by Ethel »

Hi,
I'm using Cacti Version 0.8.8b, SNMP Version NET-SNMP version: 5.5, RRDTool 1.3.x. Basically I use it to monitor traffic of different switch and routers. But now I need to monitor Unix (Centos 6.5) & Windows OS based server CPU & Memory Utilization ratio. I've already added some of my servers in the system giving Host Template "Local Linux Machine" and Ping Method "UDP Ping" and I'm able to get some of the data. But I guess these data are not legitimate as all graphs are stating same value. Plus whenever I try to use "SNMP Uptime" or "Ping & SNMP Uptime" as Downed Device Detection method instead of "Ping" I get SNMP error in reply though my SNMP Community and Port informations are as per requirement. I guess I'm missing up something and for that reason I'm unable to get my required data.

It would be very helpful if someone can suggest me the whole procedure of adding Unix & Windows based machines in Cacti or may be share some of the previous posts relevant to my query.

Thanks in advance
Ethel

Do not use "Local Linux Machine", that is only for the LOCAL machine that Cacti is installed on. Just use the " SNMP - Get Mounted Partitions" and it should work for any Unix/Linux/Windows device that has SNMP installed and properly configured.
