Server size

Post by tsup »

New to Cacti but we are looking to use it to monitor maybe 400 or more ethernet ports. Is there any place I can find recommendations on a server size to do this?

Are these ports all on a few devices or 1 port per device?

400 or so ethernet ports isn't very many, so I would think anything bigger than a Raspberry Pi (and maybe even it!) could do it.

It also depends on the OS you are running. If Centos, you could easily get away with 1 CPU and 1-2 GB of ram and probably not have any issues. If the disks are ultra slow, you could have some latency there. My test server has over 1000 data sources and finishes polling in 3 seconds. Its 4 CPUs and 2 GB of ram. The thing is basically a sleep most of the time.
