SNMP Error Adding Server 2012 Device

Post by GLShoulders2 »

I am very new to cacti, in fact this is my first install. I installed cacti on a server running Debian and following this article --> http://ewams.net/?date=2014%2F07%2F14&v ... ep_by_Step. I installed SNMP on the 2012 R2 server and left all the settings at their defaults. Then I try to add a device in Cacti and I first noticed that there isn't a template included for server 2012, only Windows 2000/XP Host. So I left this the selection at None and continued to add the device but I get a message that says SNMP errors. Looking at the cacti Log File I see the following...

11/16/2016 10:20:39 AM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] WARNING: SNMP Get Timeout for Host:'cg-in-hostx1.caregivers.local', and OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0'

I've tried this using hostname and IP and I am able to ping by hostname from the cacti server and it resolves the IP with no issues. I've also configured the SNMP service on the 2012 server to use a specific read only community string and added the cacti server to the accept SNMP packets from these hosts setting and still the same results.

How can I add this server into cacti and is there a way to add server 2012 r2 templates to the cacti server?

The Windows 2000 template should still work just fine (from what I remember, I don't use windows much anymore).

As far as the server, did you start the SNMP Service, and do you have a firewall running? Also, if I remember correctly, Windows at one point starting putting the default settings to only allow connections from localhost (in the snmp settings), you may need to remove that.
