Understanding CACTI Database Schema

Post by anmasso »

Hi everyone,

I am building a portal to integrate the output of several monitoring tools, one of them is CACTI.

I need to export data from cacti and insert that data in a MySQL database. later on I will use that data to define monitoring KPIs and paint their evolution in visualization charts.

Is there any documentation that explains CACTI database schema? I've found the schema but no explanation about it and how CACTI stores data there. For instance I would like to identify the different counters and their associated polling data.

I really appreciate your help.

If your looking for the data thats in the graph, then its not in the database. Each data source is stored in an RRD file inside the RRA directory.

Thanks a lot, I know the data is in the rrd files but do I have to use the database to gather some other information such as the chart names or the counter names and properties?

Yes, you need the database for that information.

Have a look at the database schema here: http://docs.cacti.net/_media/manual:087 ... 0.8.7i.pdf
