I have just set up my cacti (version 0.8.8f+ds1-4ubuntu4.16.04.1) and everything is up and running, except the graphs for the network interfaces of the virtual machines.
In detail: CPU, RAM, DISK e.g. are being monitored and graphed absolutely correct, just the graphs for the network interfaces are failing.
I am stuck in finding a solution and would need some support.
As a basis to start off some details about the environment:
Server OS: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
Cacti version: 0.8.8f+ds1
Windows VM which is being monitored and graphed: Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter edition
Using Windows-Feature SNMP and according windows service plus SNMP informant to deliver SNMP results to cacti
SNMP-Informant: Standard (Free-) Edition
Clicking on "Verbose query" in the Cacti WebGUI on the "SNMP_Informant_Standard - Network Statistics" displays the following result:
+ Running data query [15].
+ Found type = '3' [SNMP Query].
+ Found data query XML file at '/usr/share/cacti/site/resource/snmp_queries/snmp_informant_standard_network.xml'
+ XML file parsed ok.

The overall result is:
- no graph is being created
- not even a X- and Y- axis is being created
