Hello,
I have to use cacti to view clients routers bandwith.
I have installed the 0.8.8h version on Debian. RRDtool 1.5.7.
Can someone tell me if i can poll every 5 or 10 seconds my routers without using realtime ?
I changed the poller intervall and repopulate... with cmd.php method but no snmp request is sent.
Can you help please ?

Just changing the polling interval won't do what you want. You need to also create new RRAs to store the data properly, and change the Data Templates (Step and Heartbeat), etc...
Honestly, at that low of an interval, your more than likely to have the whole system come crashing down (a few devices not responding will cause the poller to run over its time limit and the rest of the graphs won't populate). You would also need to ensure you are using spine instead of cmd.php, and I would recommend the Boost plugin with memory tables, otherwise IO could become a huge issue since you are writing to disk so much.
Seems like a lot of trouble for something that isn't going to be anymore accurate than say 1 minute polling.

Hello Cigamit,
Thank you very much for answering so fast.
I will try what you wrote.
I choose that polling précision because clients will often overload their bandwith for just 10 seconds and will call us to tell that they had a disconnection and we have to tell them why...
It won't be all routers, just routers that have disconnections and slowdown.

Re: polling every 5 seconds or 10 seconds
Hello,
Can I ask you if I can do my polling every 5/10 seconds with Cacti or does it takes to much risks ?
When you mean crashing the system, you only mean graph will not populate for few time or I need to reboot my Cacti server?
And if I Can, would you please give me a tutorial because I tried this http://docs.cacti.net/manual:088:8_rrdtool.03_big_rra but it didn't work for me.
