Alerting oh THOLD for specific hours of specific days

Post by xq1xq1xq1 »

I am quite new to cacti - please excuse me if this is a dumb question.

I have a case where I only care if the interface bandwidth falls below a threshold for 3 hours on a specific day.

I have seen a way to ignore weekend alerts.

Any ideas as to how to only have a THOLD alert sent if the THOLD threshold event occurs within a specific hour range on a specific day?

You can sort of accomplish this with the maintenance plugin, but the problem would be that it is applied to every threshold on a specific device, not per threshold.

I am okay with the entire device being subjected to the same THOLD Alerting window.

Any suggestions as to how to set this up would be much appreciated!

You will want this plugin.
http://svn.cacti.net/viewvc/maint/trunk/?root=Plugins
Just create a directory called "maint" under plugins, and throw those files in there. Then install the plugins ui inside of Cacti.

Hit a snag:

I copied the files into a new folder maint under plugins but when I go to plugin settings I get the dialog in the attached file.

It looks like it is trying to execute setup.php but something is amiss

Any guidance appreciated!

Running: Version 0.8.8h on Centos 6.7

Open setup.php and paste the first few lines. I am betting you copied the websvn display page instead of the code itself. For each of the files, you should have clicked on the download link.

I guess I don't quite understand what the link was that you had sent me - I found another download site - https://github.com/Cacti/plugin_maint

This appears to work - however selinux made everything go south until I did a relabel :-)

When I went looking to find help on using the MAINT plugin the readme file said:

----[ Installation

To install the plugin, please refer to the Plugin Installation Documentation

This may be a dense question but I have been unable to find the Plugin Installation/Usage documentation - I looked in the various threshold and device webpages in cacti but did not see anything that resembled time of day alerting.

Help :o

The github version of Maint will not work with your current version. It is for Cacti v1.0 only.

Okay - I did not find it intuitive to click the download link then do a file save as from the web page - but it worked - I guess live and learn :-)

Thanx for the patience :-)

Now the maintenance menu shows up.

I created a new schedule and associated the device that I want to monitored for specific days and times into this schedule.

The device shows up as associated into current list
showing that the device is associated with the current list
showing that the device is associated with the current list
associated-maint-device.jpg (39.33 KiB) Viewed 4704 times
But when I select the associated box no devices are listed.
showing no devices are listed that are associated with the schedule.
showing no devices are listed that are associated with the schedule.
associated-maint-devices-list.jpg (47.15 KiB) Viewed 4704 times
Is my device actually part of the schedule or do I have to do something else to associate/activate the device into the schedule?

If the device is configured correctly then why don't I see it in the associated list?

Sorry if I am being dense - but this is new to me.

I am no longer able to associate a device to this schedule:

As my brain appears to have died - any guidance is appreciated!

Uncheck the "Associated" filter. You have it set to only show ones that are currently associated with the schedule already.
