Does cactid require a cron or scheduler entry

Post by benhanson »

The documentation doesn't seem to be quite clear here. If I'm using cactid as my poller, should my cron/scheduler job be changed from poller.php to cactid? This might seem obvious, but the cactid docs make no reference to changing scheduled jobs, just "After completing these steps, Cacti will spawn Cactid every 5 minutes instead of cmd.php"

So does the web server just magically spawn cactid?

Nevermind

Just read through poller.php, it's quite clear now. poller.php is querying for poller type then executing cactid or cmd.php. I'll leave my semi-damaged question here so someone else won't feel so idiotic.

i was having big problems with poller.php and cmd.php so i just disabled them from crontab and all that and added cactid to the cron. it all seems to work fine now...is that a bad idea or not?

Depends, what version are you running. 0.8.6x requires that you run poller.php, and it will spawn you configured poller, cmd.php or cactid.
