thold - user email automatic notify

Post by pwd9370 »

I'm still fairly new to cacti, so I might be missing something or doing something silly - but anyway ...

I'm using cacti 0.8.8g and thold 0.5. I've found that if I add a user, and set an email address, it automatically gets added to the default notify list in all the thresholds which I have defined. Once I delete the email address for the user, it automatically gets dropped from the notify lists. I've tried everything I can think of to change this behaviour (including trying it with a test user with no privileges whatsoever) - but no luck.

Have I missed a configuration setting somewhere?

Or - is it intended that every time an email address is defined for a user, that it is assumed that alerts and warnings should be sent to this user? (If so, I personally would prefer to have a bit more control over this behaviour - I might just conceivably want to set an email address for a cacti user without wanting to bombard them with emails.)

I've been surprised not to receive any answer to this - I assume that at the moment, it is the case that when an email address is added to a user definition, that user automatically receives email in respect of all currently defined alerts and warnings. Assuming that's the case, I think it's not ideal.

What I'd like to see (personally):

- a note on the user definition page pointing out that the email address is primarily associated with thold, and would be automatically included in the default notification list for all alerts/warnings (so that when the user complains about getting spam from cacti, you know why.)

- a checkbox on the user definition page allowing the email address to be prevented from being added to the default notification list

- a way of adding/removing email addresses from the default notification list on a per-threshold basis (I'm obviously aware that this would be a BIG change ...)

(When I've got a few spare brain-cells, I might have a look at adding these myself - particularly if anyone else thinks that they might be useful  )
