2012R2 + Poller task schedule

Post by mrbios »

I've been banging my head against a wall the past 2 days trying to get cacti working properly, and I'm nearly there! The final hurdle is in sight!

I've got cacti working, and if i manually run the command "php C:\inetpub\wwwroot\cacti\poller.php" it polls correctly and the graphs get data. I've setup a scheduled task as defined in the documentation on the cacti page here: http://docs.cacti.net/manual:088:1_inst ... gure_cacti albeit that outlines instructions for 2000/2003 or 2008, i've followed the 2008 instructions to the letter.

Unfortunately though it doesn't appear to be working. How should the poller task schedule be configured and what's the recommended polling internal setting? Default is 5 minutes, presumably once i've got day or more data entered i won't notice any gaps, but is it worth doing it every minute?

I'm obviously using the cmd.php method at the moment as i haven't looked into how to use spine yet. what's the benefit of using spine? I've downloaded it and got it ready to go but i'm struggling to find documentation on that bit.

Thanks

Operating System: Windows Server 2012R2
Webserver: IIS 8.5
Cacti: 0.8.8f
Spine: 0.8.8a
MySQL: 5.7.10
PHP: v5.6 - Installed via the web installer platform
RRDTool (Cygwin or Win32 build): 1.2.15 cygwin 1.5.20
Net-SNMP: net-snmp-5.5.0-2.x64.exe
Cygwin (cygwin1.dll version): Not sure?
Plugin Architecture: ?

EDIT: ok, do i need to set the task schedule to run indefinitely, every 5 minutes?

Ok it would appear that setting it to indefinitely did the trick.

Further questions have arisen. I'm starting with one device, getting everything i can there while learning my way around but I've hit a snag....I've imported some data templates relating to hp procurve switches such as CPU usage, memory usage and mac count. I've used a program called Getif along with the latest MIB pack from HP to find the required OIDs in order to ensure the ones in the templates are correct. I've also duplicated my RRAs as the templates wanted to use the LAST CF, and pointed my templates at those and recreated my graphs....

However, while the graphs appear to be ok, graph management debug says "OK", I don't appear to be getting any data in these graphs at all. Just zeroes. They start off as NaN, but once the 5 minutes or so the data should take ot populate has passed they fill in as zeroes, which suggests that it's working to a certain point but not actually pulling the information from the device. Any suggestions where i should check first? Meanwhile the graphs created for traffic on interfaces are all ticking over wonderfully.

EDIT: Actually he CPU usage one is working fine, it's just the memory and mac count ones that are giving me nothing....but those were the two that i had to faff around with because of them using the "LAST" CF thing.

EDIT2:
Just noticed this in the log:

Code: Select all

I assume it's something i've done wrong somewhere then, onwards to google!

EDIT3: Ooook, fixed the mac one...the oid was wrong. Just need to find the right ones for the memory now.

Yes. I've fixed that page. thanks!

Looks like you've almost got this figured out ;) As for the templates, yea they can be hit or miss depending on how the vendor implements OIDs between different models/software revisions. Yup, use GetIf or net-snmp snmpwalk to discover what the correct ones are.
Why'd you duplicate the RRAs? You could either modify an existing entry in the graph to use LAST or add another Line to show it.
