Discovery Plugin?

So I saw on the 'supported plugin' list that the Discovery plugin is supposedly officially supported. Is this not horribly broken for anybody else? I am new to Cacti and I did not expect so many random issues. I've got it somewhat working after modifying the SQL file it came with and the findhosts.php file, but the php for the webui is busted too, and it seems that the discovery templates are somewhat meaningless. I tried looking around for docs for it, but I can't seem to find anything even halfway recent. Anybody know if this plug-in is deprecated/abandoned/replaced? If either of those are true, then what other plugins that are on the "supported" list are no longer maintained?
