Hi All,
I'm upgrading a system from 0.8.7something to 0.8.8f, using the online doco. In place; same machine, same architecture, same installation of rrdtool (1.2.29).
The upgrade proceeded nicely, but all of my graphs are now blank. I ran poller.php manually to look for clues, and the only obvious error is repetitions of:
ERROR: This RRD was created on other architecture
Searching around these forums showed that was a common problem with _migrations_, usually solved with rrdtool dump and rrdtool restore. Seemed odd that it would crop up when the machine and rrdtool installs didn't change, but what the heck; I tried it anyways. No dice: rrdtool dump ALSO returns:
ERROR: This RRD was created on other architecture
(This is a quite venerable cacti installation that has been around for years; it's entirely possible there are some old rrds in there that actually were from a different architecture, they didn't work before I did this upgrade either, and no one had ever noticed. But in that case I don't know why my graphs are all missing.)
Thanks for any suggestions,
- rob.
Upgrade to 0.8.8f - missing graphs and rrdtool oddities

Re: Upgrade to 0.8.8f - missing graphs and rrdtool oddities
Update: _new_ data is appearing in the graphs, but I appear to have lost all of my historical data.
Update2: No, not _all_ of my historical data, just the last two weeks?
Yesterday, when I was starting to see new data coming in, I could see that it started up about the time I finished the upgrade, and was missing for days before that point. So I jumped to the conclusion that my historical data was gone. But if I look back further, I can see my historical data exists up until - more-or-less precisely - two weeks before the upgrade, then there's a hole in the data for two weeks, then it starts up again after the upgrade.

Windows or Linux?
Before the upgrade, you performed a backed up, right?
rrdtool 1.2.x indeed is quite old... I'm not up with all the old bugs with the 1.2 branch. Tried the 1.4.x builds? Upgrading cacti shouldnt have caused the architecture error -- thats coming from rrdtool itself.

Re: Upgrade to 0.8.8f - missing graphs and rrdtool oddities
Redhat Linux. That's the version of rrdtool Redhat provides (so yes, like most things in Redhat, it's probably ancient...) I can try installing a more recent custom build if you think that's likely to be the cause of the gap in my data, or fix other things further down the line. Now that I know I'm only missing a couple of weeks worth of data, however, I might just leave it.
Thanks for your help.

Possibly a bug with rrdtool itself, as looks like there are a few of this error on different distros (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=625709 and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/722938) in the last few years.
Might want to look into upgrading rrdtool
