Node details not displaying

Post by superd »

Hi,

This is my first time working with cacti, so apologies in advance if this is an obvious one...

I have set up a new node and copied exact configurations from current working node, but doesnt seem to be populating / responding as expected, or same as working node.

Not being Graphed - first screen dump

Missing stats, and status unknown - second screen dump

See screen dump attached for missing details. Any advise welcome, i guess Im missing something obvious....?

Hey superd,

have you checked the target? Is the SNMPd correctly configured?
Can you send the requests manually?

You have to create the graphs manually... except you have autom8 installed on your system.

Post the snmpd.conf from both systems... if you want... and your snmp configuration of cacti (for the nodes)... maybe there is something wrong :)

Thanks so much for your reply....

have you checked the target? - yes, same config as other working nodes.

Is the SNMPd correctly configured? - im not sure, i havnt made any changes other then adding node in GUI.

Can you send the requests manually? - how can i initiate a manual request?

You have to create the graphs manually... except you have autom8 installed on your system. - is this done by clicking "Add" icon, as sent in previous screenshot?

Post the snmpd.conf from both systems... if you want... and your snmp configuration of cacti (for the nodes)... maybe there is something wrong :) - I see a couple of snmpd.conf files, which file / location is correct one?

As for crearing graphs its in the upper right (above SNMP configuration in device screen)
It's labeled *Create Graphs for this Host
When You add new data sources or graph templates to a device they are not graphed by default
You need to click the mentioned link and then on the new screen create graphs of interest
When You have at least one active graph on device its status should be updated
But from screenshots You provided You probably have snmp configuration problem (not sure as from attached screnshoots its impossible to determine that, just guessing couse You have 0 elements in SNMP - Interface Statistics and SNMP - Get Mounted Partitions)

What is the message in upper left corner of the device screen ?

Should be something like that

Code: Select all

Your devicename in cacti (ip of the device)
SNMP Informationu s
System:xxxx
Uptime: yyyy
Hostname: hostname
Location: smthing
Contact: smthing

Ping Results
ICMP Ping Success (12.675 ms)
If You See SNMP Error You have problem recieving any info from this host and need to debug Your SNMP configuration

This seemed to be the issue for the most part, as in the device info / hostname etc are now displaying as expected. But the device status is now showing as "down" rather then unkown. I assume this due to one of the graphs / data queries i have enabled?

Are there any logs or entries that will tell me what query is marking the device down?

device status (from my experience) or how its checked is configured using

Code: Select all

Downed Device Detection
The method Cacti will use to determine if a host is available for polling.
NOTE: It is recommended that, at a minimum, SNMP always be selected.
in device configuration page
In some cases not sure why when i used ICMP for ping it did not work (ping response was ok) when i swiched to UDP or TCP ping status was updated
Im suggesting to check which one of the avaliable options works best for You
