Testers Needed - Multiple Polling Intervals in 0.8.6f

Post by TheWitness »

I have created a patch to Cacti 0.8.6f to allow for the application of multiple poller intervals for data sources. This patch was originally created for Cacti 0.8.5 however was never officially supported.

The same will hold true here. However, the method used in this patch, is identical to what is being planned for 0.9 where we will officially support multiple intervals.

I am hoping that those who are either currently running 0.8.5 with the multiple polling intervals patch in place or users who need greater resolution than 5 minute counters will take advantage of this opportunity.

In order to participate, you will need to setup a development environment and then apply the patch. I am also looking for someone to perform a usage write-up.

For those who are interested, please send an e-mail or PM to my attention, and I will set you up for testing. Please keep in mind, I would like this to be a closed test. Therefore, you should only post polling interval questions to the unstable/development forum. In addition, once I have sent you the patch, you are not to post it.

Regards,

Is this patch still available? I've got a couple of datasources that I would like to poll less frequently than my other graphs.

Multiple polling intervals are actually realized by defining different steps and heartbeat settings within the data template.

Cacti will honor this and poll these items only according to this value.

Now that means if you want to have different "devices" to be polled at different intervals then you have to duplicate the data template and graph templates accordingly.

So multiple polling intervals are there, just a bit combersome
