Update from 0.8.7i to 0.8.8c
Hello,
I'm using Cacti 0.8.7i on Ubuntu 12.04.
How to proceed to update to the latest version without uninstall the previous version?
Thanks for your support.

Did you install directly from our source, or did you install via your distros package?
If you installed via our source, the documentation link at the top of the page has all the update procedures. If you installed via package, you need to contact the maintainer of the package.

I too would like to update cacti to 0.8.8c on Ubuntu 12.04 (precise). I would like to use the standard system upgrade commands. However, I don't see that on Paul's PPA....am I missing something?
Thanks for any info,
Jackie

Re: Update from 0.8.7i to 0.8.8c
What is the exact reason why you want to go to 0.8.8c. I backported all security issues to the package already in my ppa, and I am not convinced that going to 0.8.8c is now a good step, as it seems to have several rough edges. For Debian/Ubuntu I recommend to wait for the next release as a lot of improvements are coming. But if there is a great demand I can provide the 0.8.8c package that I already prepared for Debian Experimental in my ppa.jackie wrote:I too would like to update cacti to 0.8.8c on Ubuntu 12.04 (precise). Thanks for your response. We are just trying to keep current with the cacti's new features and the bug fixes. If you recommend waiting for the next version, we could do so. Do you have any idea on when the next release is due out?
Thanks,
Jackie

Re: Update from 0.8.7i to 0.8.8c
I am no member of the cacti dev-team so I don't know. The previous two weeks have been quiet, but an extreme load of changes have been committed to the archive in the weeks before that. I can only assume that the dev's are now evaluating and planning.jackie wrote:Do you have any idea on when the next release is due out?

Re: Update from 0.8.7i to 0.8.8c
Hi,
I'm using cacti 0.8.7i on ubuntu 12.04 and need to add Plugin architecture to use some plugins I'm needing.
However I can't either install PIA nor upgrade cacti to a version which already comes with PIA integrated.
I'm trying to do so by using apt-get install.
Also tried to install a backported version which promised to allow install cacti 0.8.x by using
add-apt-repository ppa:micahg/ppa (no idea what I did, just got this from another forum).
however apt-get still installs 0.8.7i
What my optios are?
Many thanks in advance.

Did you run apt-get update after the add-apt command?agomezro wrote:Also tried to install a backported version which promised to allow install cacti 0.8.x by using

If you make sure that the apache configuration files are kept, you can also have a look at my signature. The version that I provide is much more up-to-date that micahg's version. Following Launchpad's explanation:
"""This PPA can be added to your system manually by copying the lines below and adding them to your system's software sources.
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/paul-climbing/cacti/ubuntu trusty main

0.8.8c will be around for a couple of months - the next version is quite a leap, and will take some time to come out.

When can we expect to see 0.8.8c added to the PPA Paul. Thanks for the upkeep.

Re: Update from 0.8.7i to 0.8.8c
Well, I don't plan to do that actually. All the security fixes are in and it is my impression that the rest of the changes are not as stable as one would wish. I am expecting that this will all be fixed in the next release which is a major rewrite of a lot of functionality, where only a minor part was done in 0.8.8c.redpeppers01 wrote:When can we expect to see 0.8.8c added to the PPA Paul. If you really want, you can pick up the .deb file from Debian Experimental, where I already did the work.
