Difference between cmd.php plotting and spine plotting

Dear Mates,

Can anyone clarify me Difference between cmd.php plotting and spine plotting. As when i selecting cmd.php option, i cannot plot graphs.

From what I read, the only difference is a question of optimization. spine is faster than cmd.php. But with the new version of cacti it seems useless to install spine. Anyway if someone have a feedback, I am interested too.
