I have recently added the cron to keep my graph names up to date.
I've noticed this not working and that even when manually ran against a device it does not work.
The only way for cacti to see new descriptions is if i enter the device, click "verbose query", then "save" then use "reapply suggested names"
Obviously this is not the way to go about keeping a couple hundred items up to date.
I am running Version 0.8.8b
Thank you =)

You're using \cacti\cli\poller_graphs_reapply_names.php ?
