Active Directory 2012r2

We will soon be upgrading our Active Directory infrastructure from 2003 to 2012r2. What I am struggling to find are answers to the following:
Is is AD aware ?
Does it matter what version of AD we are running at?
What is the latest version or most recent that is 2012 compatible ?
Has the latest version been tested again AD 2012r2 ?

I apologize for the questions, but we are separated from that team and I need to make sure that when I do this upgrade that we do not compromise or break anything, regardless if it's AD aware. I just need to make sure.

Cacti supports LDAP authentication.

I'd recommend performing a quick install on a VM using http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=14946 to play around with the LDAP config to see if your needs will be met.
