thold alerts - Graphs not matching data

Post by Mattz0r »

Hello Guys,

I'm quite confused about why this is happening, I'm not sure exactly!

Basically, when a threshold is alerted, via email, the number within the subject line, we believe to be correct, however, the graph doesn't show the same as what the subject does.

For example:
NORMAL: Cab 6 - Traffic - ***** [traffic_in] Restored to Normal Threshold with Value 0.1915
The image which is attached shows as per the attached image.

I'm using the latest version of Cacti 0.8.8b, Thold 0.4.9 (I know this is one version out, but the newest version is only minor differences, from what I can see!) and Settings version 0.71

From what I can make out, the image that was attached to the "NORMAL" email, should have been attached to the "ALERT" email, it's like the graphs are being re-generated after the email is sent, so it's not being given the correct graph.

If you need any further information from me, please let me know and I'll be happy to provide.

Cheers,

Matt

Is that particular threshold using a CDEF, because the value in the graph isn't the same "type" as the graph.

Hello there,

Yes, this is an existing set up that I've taken over - It's using a CDEF called "Turn Bytes into MBits"

I've attached an image of what this looks like.

Cheers,

Matt

That CDEF really looks wrong. I would think it would look closer to what mine is
cdef=CURRENT_DATA_SOURCE,1024,/,1024,/,8,*

To be honest,

I think the main issue we are having is that the actual graphed data in the graph attached, does not match up or tally with any of the other information.

For example:

ALERT: bla bla bla has gone above threshold of 10 with 17.7305

Image

Followed by

NORMAL: bla bla bla has returned to normal threshold with value 0.0861

Image

As you can see from the two graphs, I'd have expected the contents of graph 2, to be in graph 1, to match the rest of the data.

Is this a Cacti bug, or a thold bug, or something else that I'm not seeing.

Cheers,

Matt

Nobody have any idea why this might be happening?

Should this be raised as a cacti bug, or would be under a thold bug? I'm not quite sure at this stage, but either way, it seems to be wrong.

Sometimes in the thold alert email I get a graph that completely doesn't match the subject line/data (which is correct). Not sure if this is a separate issue.
