I recently added hundreds of Windows and Netware devices to our Cacti. The basic steps were click Devices, click add, type descrition and hostname/IP, set Host Template, click save. Repeat many, many times.
I would be nice to have some method to "bulk import" from a list. Maybe a CSV file such as:
description, hostname, host_template_to_apply
I think I've read here that some are adding directly to the MySQL dababase.
Feature request, bulk add devices

This is on the requested feature list, and has been for a while. I do see it being part of cacti, but not in the next release.

The thing about bulk addition is that you then have to create the graphs and select the graphs you want to add.
Example:
HostA, hostname-a, winxp-template
HostB, hostname-b, winxp-template, apache template
HostC, hostname-c, ucd/net-template, apache template, bind-9 template
HostD, hostname-d, winxp-template,
So something else should be done for it... not to mention that maybe you can add the ability to do a network scan and then add the hosts that you can ping or get snmp data from....
Maybe:
Hostname, hostdescription, snmp_ver/community
And then a screen that allows you to do a scan of those and determine what template you COULD apply to it. So you would then select from multiple template for each host.
I'm just throwing in some ideas. =)
