mysql and various runtime errors

Post by kjcox »

I've been having a heck of a time trying to get cacti to work. I'm running it on a Red Hat 7.3 machine with the latest security patches as of Sept. 5, 2002. Here are the applications I have installed all from source (which I have done on countless other machines with no problems).
* apache_1.3.26
* cacti-0.6.8
* mysql-3.23.51
* php-4.2.2
* rrdtool-1.0.39
I had problems getting past the initial setup page, so I used the moderator's suggestion for bypassing this. Then I could not get past the admin login/password page. Used the same crib suggested by the moderator for bypassing this. Now, I see all sorts of MySQL errors in every login screen. I have re-installed dozens of times and changes the settings to every possible config as well as read through the postings here. It appears that several other people are having the same issue.
Any ideas? I'd be happy to post a more detailed installation guide, provided I get this to work. I've wirtten enough documentation on many other programs that have helped the neophytes here at work start using Linux.
Thanks.

It appears that when I did the installation of this box (very new) I installed the PHP RPMs. I simply deleted those and then reinstalled the apps from source. I then had no problem getting logged in.
Now to simply learn how to generate the graphs.....
