realtime plugin issue

cacti 8.8b on Centos 6.5

realtime graph is giving the following notice:
"The Image Cache Directory is not writable. Please set permissions and then attempt to open another realtime graph."

console>settings>misc>cache directory:
/usr/share/cacti/cache
drwxr-xr-x. 2 cacti apache 4096 Jan 29 13:19 cache

also attempted chmod -R 777 /usr/share/cacti/cache with same result.

Any ideas?

What worked for me:

changed the cache directory to /var/www/html/cache (after reading on various forums that the default for Cacti was this location)
mkdir /var/www/html/cache
chmod -R 755 /var/www/html/cache
chown -R apache:apache /var/www/html/cache

(Note that /var/www/html also is owned by apache:apache)

I installed realtime plugin and setup the user permissions. When I click on realtime icon I get a popup windows trying to show graph but it is a broken graph with a red X on it. Here is what I have.

CentOS 5.5
cacti-0.8.8b
realtime-v0.5-2
setup directory /var/www/html/realtime-image-cache and setup as apache:apache owner with 777 permission setting

Normal graphs work fine but not realtime. Below is the screenshot. What am I missing. Thanks in advance for your help.
