[WMI] Develop Add-On, or an other stuff ?

Hi guys,

first great congratulation for cacti, it's a really amazing product ... Now let's talk about the main subject of my post. I have a lot of windows server and snmp is not really good to monitor them, on the same box (as cacti , linux box) i have nagios, i use nsclient (check_nt) to pool some data. All is fine but as i said i have more then 15 windows to monitor, and the procedure to get a graph of wmi counter is really long.

First i have tried to use script_queries capabilities of cacti, but there is to many counters, this is far from useable stuff.... too bad

Now I think i have to choice, integrate my develepoment directly in cacti (or trying) or make a other thing to create some graph in cacti for me...

in both way i need to get help on the schema of database, and how cacti proceed to create some rra and etc ....

some help will be really enjoyable

Couldn't you pass the required WMI counter as a parameter to the script?
So you would need only 1 script to get all the WMI data via check_nt into cacti.

it's the stuff i do, but there is few problem with ',' character but doesn't matter

I have over 100 counter to check (Exchange, IIS, Sql) and doing it one by one is really painfull

I think i'm gonna develop some scripts to get all exchange counter , and could use it on different server ... it's the fastest way .... maybe i could develop some c# app to auto write perl script ....

I'm gonna do it like this =) sound usable and simple

Have a look at http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=1041. They were discussing this problem in this thread - not sure if they found a solution

they found the solution you have to change some source of check_nt

i've already begin my app , i will show some result soon maybe tomorow or on monday

Hi,

I am a bit late ...... let's send some zip ....

Fist things HOW it work :
it's simple i have a perl script (pre.pl) with a specific tag "@1@" this tag is replaced by counters array by the c# app. On the other side the c# produce the xml file for cacti too ....

I think the application is not very complicated, anybody could use it

I have some behaviour with check_nt for the moment, if you use french windows (like me), you should notice that microsoft had translated counter name, and they have used some worthest character like éèî ,' , and he produce some bug in check_nt

now i think to resolve that, i have to program my own check_nt wonderfull isn't it(big thanks to microsoft guys which are the most stupids guys all over the earth)
