I thought it would be cool to be able to have easy access to network related documents and/or graphics from inside the tree view. So a "Document" type in the pull-down that let you basically link to a graphic or text document or maybe an HTML link that would provide the user with more information about the portion of the tree they are in.
For example: I'd like to create a leaf to store a .jpg Visio diagram of a location, so I might make a "Docs and Diagrams" leaf for that. If I can ever freaking figure out what I'm doing wrong on creating a network weathermap, I'd LOVE to be able to see it from within Cacti, so I'd make a "Network Status" leaf to stick that in... and so on....
root
--City
----Routers
----Servers
----Docs & Diagrams
----Network Status
Thanks for lookin'!

And somewhat along the same lines.... I've got a LOTTTTT of cities to enter. 95% of them will have all of the same sub-leafs. I've already done most of mine, so I'm thinking for future users here... As I was entering them all though, I had wished that there was the ability to define a tree item "class" to where I could have a class-type "City" that I've defined which will already have sub-leafs "Servers" "Routers" "Diagrams" etc. Then instead of adding a "Header" from the pull-down menu, I would have a new option called "City" that was already pre-populated with leafs that were relevant to the way I'm organizing my site. In a large environment, it would help keep things consistent if some of the data entry was farmed out to other members of the staff.
Thanks again,
Jason

Me too! I'm just starting to give our users access to cacti, and it'd be great to be able to include external data or at least links to it in a tree (I do have weathermap working - PM me if you need a hand).jas0420 wrote:I thought it would be cool to be able to have easy access to network related documents and/or graphics from inside the tree view. Me Too!
Just read this as I was thinking of posting a feature request for this myself.
I'd very much like to use Cacti as the front end to our network management. Being able to define custom hyperlinks or other objects to be embedded as a leaf node or similar would mean I can provide links to syslog records, UPS/Cisco Cluster management apps.
It would be fab, and I'm guessing, not *too* hard to implement, as you've already done most of the work.
Cheers

PS - Cacti is fab - but its worse than cocaine addiction, you find yourself wanting to graph *everything*

Re: New Tree Item Type
I ended up writing a patch for whatever was current Cacti at that time, but it didn't make it into the main source, so I left it for dead. It had plugin hooks so plugins could add new types, too. It wasn't especially hard to do, but you need to patch the main cacti a fair bit, so it can't be a plugin.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)
